Bandai Namco has officially confirmed that Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the highly anticipated DLC expansion, has sold over 10 million copies worldwide—an extraordinary achievement that cements FromSoftware’s ongoing dominance in the action RPG genre.

This impressive figure comes just after news that the base game Elden Ring has surpassed 30 million total units sold, and it doesn’t stop there. The newly released Elden Ring: Nightreign, a standalone multiplayer spinoff launched on May 30, has already sold an astounding 5 million copies in less than two months.

A Franchise with Unstoppable Momentum

The 1-in-3 attach rate between the base game and Shadow of the Erdtree highlights just how eagerly fans have embraced the expansion’s brutally challenging content. Meanwhile, Nightreign’s swift success is a clear indication that Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have a powerful franchise on their hands—one with immense longevity and a loyal global following.

Despite the difficulty spike that Erdtree introduces, it has been praised for enhancing everything that made the original game compelling. Nightreign offers its own brand of punishing gameplay, introducing a roguelike multiplayer twist and amped-up bosses known as Everdark variants, including the revamped nightmare-inducing Fulghor.

Not a Live Service—But Possibly More to Come

While Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki has stated the title is “not intended as a live service game,” a recent Steam page listing hinted at potential downloadable content in the future. Considering the overwhelming success of Shadow of the Erdtree, expanding Nightreign seems like a logical next step for the publisher.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Elden Ring

FromSoftware has yet to confirm a direct sequel or further expansions, but given the record-breaking numbers and critical acclaim, it’s almost certain that more is on the horizon. Shadow of the Erdtree felt like a grand finale—an elegant conclusion to the Lands Between—but fans are already speculating about where the series could venture next.

One thing is certain: with these remarkable sales milestones, Elden Ring has evolved from a groundbreaking RPG into one of the defining franchises of the decade.
