Battlefield 6 Will Not Feature Ray Tracing – Performance and Optimization Explained
SHARE

During the Battlefield 6 beta, players were impressed by the game’s optimization. Even systems that only met the minimum requirements were able to run smoothly. However, a lingering question remained: would the final version include ray tracing support?

The curiosity was understandable. After all, Battlefield 2042 featured ray tracing, although it was limited to contact shadows. Unfortunately, the visual improvement was minimal while the performance hit was significant, making it a questionable feature to enable.

Why Battlefield 6 Does Not Include Ray Tracing

Christian Buhl, technical director at Ripple Effect Studios (formerly DICE LA), confirmed that from the start, the team prioritized performance and optimization. Because of this, ray tracing was never part of the plan for Battlefield 6.

This also means the technology is unlikely to arrive in future patches. Buhl stated clearly that there are no short- or medium-term plans to implement ray tracing.

Visuals Without Ray Tracing: Still Spectacular

Some fans may view the absence of ray tracing as a technical step backward, but Battlefield 6’s visuals remain stunning. The game delivers spectacular graphics and smooth performance, even with massive amounts of action happening simultaneously.

Compared to Battlefield 2042, the technical leap is significant. The game runs better, looks sharper, and avoids the CPU bottlenecks that plagued its predecessor.

Alternative Technologies Included in Battlefield 6

While ray tracing is gone, the developers haven’t ignored modern upscaling and performance-boosting technologies. Battlefield 6 supports:

  • NVIDIA DLSS 4
  • AMD FSR 4
  • Intel XeSS 2

These technologies enable smart upscaling, frame generation, and smoother gameplay across a wide range of hardware, ensuring players can balance performance and visual fidelity.

Battlefield 6 System Requirements

To enjoy Battlefield 6 on PC, here’s what you’ll need:

  • CPU (minimum): Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 / AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT (6 GB VRAM)
  • Storage: 55 GB of free space
  • Drive: HDD supported, but SSD strongly recommended for fast loading and asset streaming
  • Security: TPM 2.0 chip (or equivalent) and Secure Boot enabled

Battlefield 6 Release Date

The Battlefield 6 launch is scheduled for October 2025. Fans can expect a well-optimized, visually stunning, and technically advanced game—even without ray tracing.

Battlefield 6 may not include ray tracing, but the game’s performance, visuals, and optimization more than make up for it. With DLSS, FSR, and XeSS providing cutting-edge enhancements, players can look forward to one of the smoothest and most polished Battlefield entries to date.
